World’s biggest natural gas reserves

It is quite hard to believe that almost 80% of the natural gas reserves are only found in 10 countries. Russia has about quarter natural gas reserves of the world whereas the rest of the natural gas reserves lie in Middle Eastern countries like Qatar and Iran.

Russia

Russia tops this list because it holds the greatest number of natural gas reserves in the whole world. According to a research report published in 2013, Russia had about 1,688 trillion cubic feet of gas. That is equal to the quarter of the whole natural gas found on earth.
45% of the natural gas reserves of Russia are present in Siberia. Most of the natural gas reserves in Russia are under development and production.
The largest gas reserve company in Russia, Gazprom controls about 65% of the production of natural gas in Russia.
It is easy for people to use natural gas in Russia because of the gas cost. The prices are comparatively low as compared to other countries.

Iran

Iran is the second-largest country where there is abundant natural gas. However, not much gas reserves are under development because these reserves are not open to international development sanctions.
60% of natural gas reserves in Iran are located offshore. South Pars, a place where there are about 27% of the total natural gas reserves. This gas produced enough gas to account for 35% of Iran’s total gas output.

Qatar

Qatar is the third-largest country in the world to have the most natural gas reserves. In the year 2012, Qatar had produced about 885.3 trillion cubic feet of gas. In fact, Qatar contributes about 13% of the total number of gas reserves in the world. Moreover, Qatar is the only and first LNG supplier in the whole world.

Turkmenistan

A Central Asian country, Turkmenistan is the 4th largest country in the world to have the most natural gas reserves. The gas produced in 2012 by Turkmenistan was more than 353.1 billion cubic feet but the market of natural gas soon collapsed because of underdevelopment and lack of foreign investment.

United States of America

USA is the 5th most country to have the most natural gas reserves and proves to have a gas of about 334.07 trillion cubic feet. Due to research and development, the presence of natural gas in the country has increased, particularly from the year 1999. Barnett is the largest natural gas reserve in the USA. Currently, the USA is the largest consumer and producer of natural gas.

Saudi Arabia

Saudia Arabia is also the largest natural gas reserve country in the whole world. It has significantly highlighted its share of the gas reserve in the Saudi Kuwait neutral zone.
The interesting thing about Saudia Arabia in these terms is that its largest natural gas reserve is in the world’s largest desert.

United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is the 7th largest country to have the greatest number of natural gas reserves. But despite the large gas reserves spread across the Middle East country, it imports its natural gas from other countries, primarily Qatar.

Venezuela

Venezuela is one of the largest oil reserves countries in the world. Natural gas reserves in the North-east coast of Venezuela and in the north-western part are currently being developed by foreign investment.

Nigeria

Nigeria is the 9th largest natural gas reserve in the world. The country has estimated that it has about 182 trillion cubic feet of gas. Most of the natural gas reserved in Nigeria are located in the area f Niger delta.

Algeria

Algeria’s natural gas reserves are the 10th largest in the world. However, the production of natural gas has been declined due to the complete depletion of the mature gas field. Half of the country’s natural gas reserves are present in Hassi R’ Mel. Moreover, Sonatrach is the largest producer of gas at present.
